The village is first mentioned in documents from the 12th and 13th centuries. The history of Berk is closely linked to that of Kronenburg . In 1803 the church village Berk was raised to a parish. Johann Heinrich Merkes (1803-1810) is named as the first pastor.

The parish church of St. Brictius dates in part from the second half of the 12th century. On January 12, 1971, the church burned down and was partially rebuilt in modern forms. Only the tower and the choir remained.

The Berker Church is a place of pilgrimage , which is dedicated to the 14 helpers in need and is a popular destination , especially during Lent. Next to the church is a small chapel (built under Pastor Matthias Schmelzer in 1928), which is dedicated to the fallen of the First and Second World Wars .
