Baasem is a district of the municipality of Dahlem in the district of Euskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia in the Eifel .

location

Baasem lies in the fertile Blankenheim limestone basin . There is a nature reserve in the vicinity , the Baasemer Heide with the key number EU-072 .

The federal highway 51 runs on the eastern edge of the village and the district road 63 on the north . Kronenburg lies to the west of the village and Dahlem to the east. The Baasem Forest borders the place in the north .

history

Already in 867 the place was mentioned as Baasenheim in a document. The Stablo-Malmedy Abbey owned land in Baasem . In the 14th and 15th centuries, the noble lords of Baasenheim were one of the most famous ministerial families in the Eifel. Towards the end of the 15th century, the place belonged to the Kronenburg rule . The von Baasenheim family moved to the southern Eifel and acquired land and property rights there through marriage and exchange.

In the years that followed, the history of Baasem was closely linked to that of Kronenburg.

On July 1, 1969, Baasem was incorporated into Dahlem.

St. Mary's Birth

The Catholic parish church of St. Mary's Birth , built around 1500, is in a central location and is a two-aisled hall church . At the Einstützkirche each pillar carries the Gothic ribbed vault. In the church there is a late Renaissance altarpiece from the 17th century. The tower is a former defense tower .
