Roobernet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Roobernet is a red wine variety . The new breed was presented by Christiaan Johannes Orffer at the University of Stellenbosch and approved in 1990. It is a cross between the Teinturier du Cher (also called Pontak in South Africa ) and Cabernet Sauvignon .

The Roobernet variety was specially bred for warm climates with intensive artificial irrigation and the associated necessary rot resistance. The wines have a deep color; a characteristic that it received from the dye grape Teinturier du Cher. The taste of the red wines is reminiscent of a Cabernet Sauvignon.
