Teinturier you Cher

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Teinturier du Cher is a red wine variety . It is very old and was probably selected from a wild grape. It is considered the origin of all newly grown dye grapes . It was used as early as the 17th century in the Orléans region on the central Loire to add color to blends . In South Africa it was an important part of the red Constantia . It played a very important role in the field of new breeds. Louis Bouschet achieved one of the first successful crosses of grape varieties with it and the Aramon grape variety in 1824. A whole series of new dye grapes were developed from the resulting grape variety called Petit Bouschet , which enjoyed great commercial success. After the phylloxera attacked European vineyards , these dye grapes also played an important role in the development of phylloxera- resistant hybrid vines . Teinturier du Cher was one of the parents of the German new breeds Dunkelfelder , Deckrot and Kolor , among many others .
