Hollerath is a district of the municipality of Hellenthal in North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

The village is naturally located on the Hollerath plateau (282.60), which belongs to the Schnee Eifel . It is located in the west of the municipality of Hellenthal and therefore directly on the border with Belgium . The Platißbach flows north of the village, the Prether Bach to the east and the Ramsbach tributary to the south . The source of the olef is located in the Zitterwald , 2.2 km southwest of Hollerath . The federal highway 265 runs through the village .

Nationally known Hollerath (formerly: health resort Hollerath) for its winter sports area and its ski lift ( ). Skiers from the cross-country skiing department of the DJK Hollerath sports club have won regional, German and European championships and competitions. The Skiclub Bonn e. V. from 1907 maintains the "Bonner Skihütte" in Hollerath, a half-timbered house built in 1913. The Wintersport-Verein Köln eV also maintains its ski hut in Hollerath, which was built in 1948 on the foundation walls of a former police station belonging to the WSV Cologne, which was badly damaged during the war. For decades, up to 2016, the Duisburg secondary schools maintained one of their school camps in Hollerath.

Varia

A number of concrete bumps on the Siegfried Line running northwest of Hollerath were the subject of an art performance for peace in 2016 by the Cologne philosopher and artist Ralf Peters.

Attractions

Parish Church of St. Bernhard

Hollerath is also the daffodils shown on the upper reaches of the olefin associated, of which parts of a foundation area under the auspices of the Loki Schmidt Foundation stand. Another attraction is the Catholic parish church . It is consecrated to St. Bernhard and was built between 1948 and 1950.
