Bungenberg is a district of the municipality Hellenthal in the district of Euskirchen , North Rhine-Westphalia .

The district is located southeast of Hellenthal. There is no main road through the small village .

Bungenberg was once a noble court that came to the Lords of Pallandt between 1416 and 1440, who also ruled Wildenburg in the Eifel. Gottfried von Bungenberg, who was elected abbot of the Steinfeld monastery in 1381, came from here . He was murdered in 1388 and is buried in the abbot's crypt in Steinfeld.

Bungenberg originally belonged to the municipality of Wahlen . On July 1, 1969 elections were incorporated into Kall. On January 1, 1972, Bungenberg was reclassified to Hellenthal along with other villages that used to belong to the municipality of Wahlen.
