Oberreifferscheid is a district of the municipality Hellenthal in the district of Euskirchen , North Rhine-Westphalia .

History

Oberreifferscheid is mentioned in a document as "Overryferscheit" in 1397, but is probably even older. The place was formerly separate; some farms belonged to Reifferscheid, the others to Wildenburg.

Geographical location

The district is located south of Hellenthal and southwest of Reifferscheid . Local roads lead through and to the village , starting from Kreisstraße 68n and Landesstraße 17 . Oberreifferscheid is surrounded by small streams: the Keinzelbach runs to the north, the Elcherbach to the south, the Brögelsiefen rises to the northeast and the Wilkessiefen rises to the southeast.

St. Lucia and St. Anthony Chapel

The small chapel of St. Luzia and St. Antonius, bricked in quarry stone and smoothly plastered, belongs to the Reifferscheid parish . It is a hall church from the 16th century, the tower was added in 1928.

Townscape

In the village there is a horse breeding stud "Casa Estanque", a children's playground and the community center with a small football field behind it.

A little outside of the village is a military cemetery with 1163 buried victims.

On the occasion of the 1986 disaster, the “ Chernobyl Cross” was erected at the entrance to the military cemetery . There is now a small rest area with a flowerbed, bench and table.

There are three associations in Oberreifferscheid:

  • Citizens and Beautification Association e. V.
  • former fire fighting group
  • Christian youth ring Oberreifferscheid (CJRO)

They hold various events in Oberreifferscheid. The fair (highlight of the year), the Antonius Ball, the Whitsun concert or the "chapel blowing" at Christmas are just a few examples.
