Manscheid is a village at the foot of the Wildenburg and is located in the North Rhine-Westphalian part of the Eifel in the national park community of Hellenthal ( Euskirchen district ).

history

At the time of the Old Kingdom it belonged politically partly to the Reifferscheid rule and partly to the Wildenburg rule . In terms of the church, the village was cut through by the border between the parishes of Steinfeld and Reifferscheid . Today it belongs to the parish of St. Johann Baptist Wildenburg in the diocese of Aachen .

Manscheid is first mentioned in 1416 in a border description of the Freedom Wildenburg, when Werner von Pallandt and Simon von Birgel make a truce. The ending -scheid in the place name indicates a foundation during the medieval clearing phase .

In Manscheid there was a ban mill belonging to the Wildenburg rulership, which was leased hereditary. The first tenants are mentioned in 1470. The water mill and was not shut down until the mid-1950s.

The Catholic elementary school , which had existed since 1952, was dissolved in 1967 as part of the school reform.

Manscheid originally belonged to the municipality of Wahlen . On July 1, 1969 elections were incorporated into Kall. On January 1, 1972, Manscheid was reclassified to Hellenthal along with other localities that previously belonged to the municipality of Wahlen.
