The Olef is a 27.9 km long orographically left tributary of the Urft in the Eifel in the district of Euskirchen , North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

The Olef rises on the Ramscheider Höhe, close to the Zitterwald , about 2.2 km southwest of Hollerath at an altitude of 639 m above sea level. NHN , right on the border with Belgium . From here it flows first in a north-westerly direction and flows through the Dreiherren forest. The valley of the Olef forms the state border here, which runs along the river. From the confluence of the Wiesbach it reaches Germany. She educates u. a. the eastern demarcation of the security zones of the Elsenborn military training area . The course of the river changes its direction to the east in a wide arc.
The following section olefin flows through the forest Schleiden and before Hellenthal to Oleftalsperre dammed. In Hellenthal, the Platißbach, coming from the southwest, flows out on the right. At the end of Hellenthal, near Kirschseiffen, the river turns north. On the northern outskirts of Blumenthal the Reifferscheider Bach flows out on the right. Other places along the river are Oberhausen, Schleiden , Olef , Nierfeld and Gemünd . Here the Olef flows out at 334 m above sea level. NHN on the left into the Urft.
On its 27.9 km long path, the Olef overcomes a difference in altitude of 335 m, which corresponds to a mean bed gradient of 12 ‰. It drains an area of 196.073 km²
