The Platißbach is an approximately seven kilometer long, southern and right tributary of the Olef in the area of the municipality of Hellenthal .
course
The Platißbach rises in the Hohes Venn-Eifel nature park in the northern Eifel , naturally on the Hollerath plateau . The source is about 2.5 kilometers northwest of the village of Hollerath and one kilometer north of the Belgian border at an altitude of about 605 m .
The Platissbach initially flows in a northerly direction. After about one kilometer it takes on an unnamed body of water from the left and changes its direction of flow to the east. Upon reaching the federal highway 265 , it changes direction again and now flows parallel to the street in a north-westerly direction up to its mouth. On its way it flows through the nature reserve Platißbachtal . The Platißbach takes on further tributaries from both sides, at Platiss , the only village it passes, its main tributary, the Prether Bach , at about 422 m . In Hellenthal, it flows at around 403 m into the Urft tributary Olef, which comes from there from the west .
Catchment area and tributaries
The catchment area of the Platißbach is 38.6 km² and drains into the North Sea via Olef, Urft, Rur, Maas and Hollands Diep.
