The Zitterwald is an Eifel landscape in the German - Belgian border area between the Euskirchen district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) and the province of Liège ( Wallonia region ).

The Zitterwald is located in the northern Eifel between Hellenthal (north), Dahlem (east) and its municipality of Kronenburg (south) and the Belgian municipality of Büllingen (west). The Zitterwald is part of the Hohes Venn-Eifel Nature Park . In the north the Eifel National Park borders on the Zitterwald, in the south the Kyll forms the border with the Schnee Eifel .

On the sparsely populated and mostly forested, over 500  m above sea level. NHN high-altitude plateau of Aspen Forest lie the headwaters of olefin , Urft and Kyll . Its highest point is on the White Stone ( 690  m above sea  level ; with a ski area) southwest of Udenbreth ; Other elevations in the Zitterwald include the Bärbelkreuz ( 662.8  m ), the Hühnerhöhe ( 659.9  m ) and the Kamberg ( 637.8  m ). The Hellenthal villages and settlements - such as Giescheid , Miescheid , Neuhaus , Ramscheid and Udenbreth - in the northern part of the Zitterwald are among the highest church villages in the Rhineland .

The Zitterwald is one of the German distribution areas of the European wildcat . The Eifel-Bärbelkreuz transmission tower is in the Zitterwald .
