Tower description and use

The Eifel-Bärbelkreuz transmission tower was built in 1985 from reinforced concrete and broadcasts six radio programs. In addition, DAB digital radio is broadcast from this tower . Previously, the WDR used the Eifel station , which was located in Rhineland-Palatinate and already broadcast the programs of the Südwestfunk . The transmission tower closes the supply gaps for WDR radio in the surrounding Eifel valleys. The VHF programs are supplied by receiving a ball from the Langenberg and Nordhelle transmitters, as well as by means of a direct connection with WDR 2 . In addition, the transmission tower is also used by mobile phone providers who connect their base stations in the surrounding area via directional radio from here.

In addition, the tower served as a low-power filler for Das Erste until November 13, 2007 . A transmission of DVB-T signals is not planned.
