Localization of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany

The transmitter Aachen-Stolberg is a transmitter of the West German Radio (WDR) for radio and television in Stolberg district Donnerberg in the North Rhine-Westphalia Aachen region . After the station Kleve, it is the second westernmost WDR station location. The facility is located on a ridge approx. 1 km east of Stolberg city center at an altitude of 285  m above sea level. NN . The antenna carrier is a 231 m high guyed steel framework mast that was erected in 1993. This transmission mast replaced an antenna mast erected in 1951, but it was isolated from the ground, as the Aachen-Stolberg transmitter was also a medium-wave transmission location until 1993 and used it directly as an antenna ( self-radiating transmission mast ).

The transmission area includes the Euregio Maas-Rhine , the Voreifel , the Jülich-Zülpicher Börde and the northern part of the DG in East Belgium. Due to the comparable antenna height with the Langenberg transmitter , the VHF broadcasts of the Aachen-Stolberg transmitter can still be received in good quality in the Cologne Bay and in the Bergisches Land .

The frequency of the medium wave transmitter , the operation of which was discontinued on December 31, 1993, was 701 kHz, or after the entry into force of the Geneva Wave Plan 702 kHz with a transmission power of 5 kW. The digital radio standard DAB + is broadcast from here on channel 11D .

Current usage

Analog radio (FM)

The following radio programs are broadcast:

program Frequency in MHz RDS PS ERP
1 live 106.40 _1LIVE__ 20 kW
WDR 2 100.80 WDR_2___ or WDR_2_AC (regional) 20 kW
WDR 3 95.90 WDR_3___ 20 kW
WDR 4 93.90 WDR_4___ 20 kW
WDR 5 101.90 WDR_5___ 20 kW
Antenna AC 107.80 Antenna_ 0.4 kW

The frequency 107.80 MHz is also coordinated for 20 kW in omnidirectional radiation. However, the local station Antenne AC from the Radio NRW network only transmits with 400 W.

Digital radio (DAB +)

DAB or the successor standard DAB + is broadcast in vertical polarization and in single-frequency mode with other transmitters. On August 29, 2012 the change from DAB channel 12D to DAB channel 11D took place. The multiplex radio for North Rhine-Westphalia ( LfM ) with the programs of the WDR and the cathedral radio with an initial output of 2 kW ERP is transmitted via this . On July 25, 2019, the power was increased to 10 kW ERP.

Digital television (DVB-T2 HD)

The DVB-T2 HD broadcasts from the transmitter Aachen-Stolberg run in single-frequency operation (Single Frequency Network) with other transmitter sites. On May 31, 2016, the broadcast of the high definition DVB-T2 HD began in North Rhine-Westphalia. Since March 29, 2017, DVB-T2 HD has only been broadcast.
