history

Telecommunication tower Willebadessen 2017

The reinforced concrete tower ( type tower , series FMT 14-16) built in 1989/90 is used for directional radio , mobile radio and the transmission of digital radio programs in the DAB + standard as well as the VHF program from Radio Hochstift . Up until May 2006, basic television broadcasters for ZDF and WDR television were also in operation at the location . The construction costs amounted to 26.5 million DM.

The shaft height of the tower is 132.5 m, it has an operating floor at a height of 45 m. The service network, namely a radio link between Willebadessen and Rischenau ( Köterberg telecommunications tower ) was commissioned on September 1, 1992. The 23.5 m long, red and white painted television antenna was installed in September 1993, so the total height of the system was 156 m. With the switch to digital television ( DVB-T ), the analogue television stations were switched off on May 29, 2006 and the antenna was dismantled again in summer 2007. Since then, television coverage in the region has been ensured by the WDR's Teutoburg Forest station .

June 2019 to supply the region were new 5.3 m high with digital radio VHF - dipole antennas mounted. Since then, a tower height of 138 m has been reached.

Today's telecommunications tower replaces a 150 m high steel lattice tower from 1965. The old tower (also known as the "Willebadessener Eiffel Tower") was dismantled in the spring of 1995 because the maintenance and upcoming repairs made continued operation uneconomical.
