A 94.7 m high tubular steel mast erected between 1955 and 1957 is used as the antenna carrier, which is 1049.5  m above sea level. A. is located. This is surrounded by a 43.5 m high steel framework construction, which has three platforms for directional antennae at 21.6, 29.6 and 36.3 m heights.

The transmission takes place with very short radio waves and requires a line of sight to the opposing stations Feldkirch , Ulmer Hütte via the passive relay Valluga and on Mount Säntis in Switzerland.

On November 14, 2012, the old, used since 1958, GfK -cylinder replaced with a height of 10 meters with a new one the same amount to an additional DVB-T mux (MUX C, Channel 55) and a DVB-T2 mux (SimpliTV , Channel 59). At the same time, a new antenna for DAB + was installed.

The national DAB + multiplex with channel 5B will go into operation on May 28, 2019. At the same time, the connection of the German federal muxes is to take place at the Pfänder location in channel 5C, so that the Lake Constance region receives over 20 new radio programs on digital radio in one fell swoop. The range of the station Pfänder extends in Germany to cities such as Lindau, Friedrichshafen, Ravensburg and Konstanz. The programs can be heard from the exposed location in Vorarlberg even in the high areas of the Black Forest. Background for the surprising activation of the Austrian national multiplex with at least nine channels: ORS was able to procure a used transmitter at short notice, which will go online in May 2019. Originally, the start on the Pfänder was not planned until March 2020.

Distribution area

The transmitter Pfänder has a relatively small coverage area within Austria for its service. Only Bregenz and the surrounding area get radio and television directly from the Pfänder, the rest of Vorarlberg is supplied by numerous filling stations. The location extends far into Germany due to its exposed location. In Baden-Württemberg in particular, the entire Lake Constance area, Swabia and the south and south-east slopes of the Alb and Black Forest are supplied by the Pfänder. Since the switch to digital radio and television, the German broadcasters have also made use of the Pfänder's large reach into Germany.

Switzerland also uses the Pfänder location to supply the Lake Constance coast and the Rhine Valley, which cannot be adequately reached from Swiss locations.
