Telecommunication building in Konstanz
Coordinates: 47 ° 40 ′ 17 ″ N , 9 ° 10 ′ 52 ″ E The Konstanz telecommunications building isthe second tallest building in the city of Konstanz after the 78 meter high Konstanz Minster .
The 14-storey building in the Petershausen district of Constance is located on Moltkestrasse between Petershauser Strasse and Zähringer Platz. There are two schools north of the building; south, across the street, apartment buildings. The telecommunications tower is home to the post office of the city of Konstanz, and a pharmaceutical company was located on the upper floors. The building is 62 meters high; with the antenna on the roof, a height of 90 meters is reached. The skyscraper is currently almost completely empty. The reason for this is an upcoming general renovation of the building.
history
Due to the immense growth of telecommunications subscribers in the Konstanz area, the previous premises of the telecommunications office in Konstanz were inadequate, so that there was a need for a new building. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new telecommunications building in Constance began in 1967. The architect of the building was the Freiburg post office director Hans Merkenthaler, who died a year after the construction work began. The topping-out ceremony took place on July 11, 1969, and the building was finally ready to move into on June 3, 1971. After Telekom withdrew almost entirely from Konstanz, the premises were rented to various companies and companies. At times, part of the Konstanz Gebhard School was also housed in the high-rise.
Transmitters
As the tallest building in the area, the Konstanz telecommunications building is also used to broadcast radio signals. These reach Constance, Kreuzlingen and the surrounding Lake Constance area.
