Radio Top (own spelling RADIO TOP ) is a Swiss radio broadcaster that is produced in Winterthur .
history
On January 1, 1984, Radio Eulach began broadcasting ( VHF ) in the Winterthur region. In the same year, Radio Wil in Wil SG and Toggenburg and Radio Thurgau in the canton of Thurgau were also switched on.
Radio Eulach, Radio Wil and Radio Thurgau merged Radio Top , which first went on air on January 1, 1998. Radio Eulach, the largest radio of the three, took over 50% of the shares in Radio Top, while Wil and Thurgau each received 25%. Radio Eulach managing director Günter Heuberger also took on the same function at Radio Top. Günter Heuberger, himself an airplane fan, borrowed the name from the nickname “Megatop” for the Boeing 747-400 operated by Singapore Airlines .
In December 2004, broadcasting operations were extended to large parts of the Canton of St. Gallen . Radio Top broadcasts program windows for the cantons of Zurich , Thurgau and St. Gallen. Since January 2005, Radio Top can also be received in the Schaffhausen region .
Listeners
As the broadcasting area expanded, Radio Top temporarily grew to become the second largest private radio station in Switzerland and, at its peak in the second half of 2005, had an average of 221,800 listeners per day. Up until mid-2007 the number of listeners was regularly around or slightly over 200,000. Thereafter, the station continuously lost listeners and thus also its second place among the private radio stations. Radio Top now has 107,960 listeners (as of the first half of 2020), which puts the station in tenth place among private radio stations.
