Radio Eulach was a Swiss private radio that was produced in Winterthur . It existed from 1984 until the merger with two other stations to form Radio Top 1998. The program was first broadcast on 102.1 MHz , later on 107.2 MHz.

history

When private radio stations were licensed for the first time, Radio Eulach received the license from OFCOM together with 35 other local radio stations shortly before the 1983 summer vacation . The radio was able to prevail against six competitors from the Winterthur region, who had also applied for a license. One of the reasons for the success of the concession could have been the budget, which at CHF 780,000 was the highest among the applicants. The initiators of the radio at the time were Jürg Spälti (CEO of Winterthur Insurance ), Hans-Jörg Hüppi (building contractor) and Albert Bangerter (journalist) and they all came from FDP circles. Günter Heuberger , the son of Robert Heuberger , joined them later ; he was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors and shortly afterwards also took over management.

On January 1, 1984, radio, which was still clearly bourgeois at the time, started broadcasting from the studio in the Neuwiesen shopping center , which you could look into directly. The station went on the air two months later than most of the other local radio stations, because at first they had neither a studio nor a transmitting antenna that could eventually be set up in Brütten.

When it started broadcasting, Radio Eulach had 14 permanent and 24 freelance workers. Five months after the start of broadcasting operations, however, the five-person newsroom was dismissed because the free-thinking board of directors and management saw them as politically too left.

Over time, bourgeois radio developed into an ordinary local radio . Radio Eulach moderators included Herbert Kramer (later candidate for the Auto Party's city council ), Jann Billeter and Philippe Soutter .

On January 1, 1998 the merger with the smaller radio stations Wil and Thurgau to form Radio Top, whereby the former Radio Eulach, as the largest merger partner, was able to take over half of the shares and Günter Heuberger became the managing director of the new radio and still is today.
