Radio Melody is a Swiss radio station that went on air as a specialty program of the main provider Radio FM1 in the cable networks in eastern Switzerland. On January 15, 2015, the station was renamed from FM1 Melody to Radio Melody. Radio Melody has been broadcasting via DAB + throughout German-speaking Switzerland since March 2020. Since June 2020, the hourly news in the CH Media Radio News Center in Zurich has been produced especially for Radio Melody and has a national focus.

The radio has been owned by the CH Media joint venture founded between the NZZ media group and AZ Medien since October 1, 2018 .

founding

After the merger of the radio station Radio Ri and Radio Aktuell (and the elimination of some “special programs”, especially at Radio Ri), the listeners felt the need to balance programs with oldies, hits and folk music. The management met this need with the newly created program in the cable networks of Eastern Switzerland and on the Internet. With hourly news and information broadcasts twice a day, including on local topics, it was “a complete radio”, according to the organizers. In order to close gaps in reception - for example in Toggenburg , where there is no cable network - distribution on digital radio was planned right from the start, in addition to expanding cable distribution.

At the beginning of 2012, folk music was reduced to one hour a day in favor of pop music.

program

Radio Melody is the Swiss hit radio and plays hits and oldies. The music mix consists mainly of current hits, mixed with the oldies from the hit and pop area. The editorial part of the program includes the hourly news produced in the CH Media Radio News Center in Zurich. There are also moderated special programs focusing on hits, hit parade, party hits, request concerts and the "jukebox" with the biggest hits on Sunday.

reception

In cable, the program can be received in the cable networks in eastern Switzerland and, since March 2009, in both cable networks in Liechtenstein. By then, an average of 34,000 listeners had been reached in Switzerland. On November 29, 2013, the third DAB multiplex went on air on Kanal 9D, initially with two locations (Rüthi and Valzeina ) and the goal of nationwide expansion in Eastern Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The DAB distribution area extends from Alststätten and Oberegg in the north to Chur in the south and from eastern Walensee to all of Liechtenstein in a west-east direction. Since the end of 2015, the region of St. Gallen, Gossau SG as far as Wil has been supplied. In the course of 2016, further parts of the Canton of Thurgau were added. Radio Melody has been available via DAB + throughout German-speaking Switzerland since March 2020.
