Hermann Niess

Hermann Nieß (born August 1, 1878 in Cönnern ; † March 19, 1949 ) was a German mining engineer.

Life

Hermann Nieß studied mining at the Bergakademie Freiberg . In 1900 he became a member of the Corps Franconia Freiberg . After the Bergakademie Freiberg in connection with the Technical University Dresden in mid-1905 the right to award doctorates to Dr.-Ing. received, Nieß was the first graduate of the Bergakademie on February 25, 1907 to become a Dr.-Ing. PhD. Then he went to the mining administration. In 1909 he was a mountain assessor in Zwickau . He became government councilor and head of the Windhoek Mining Authority in German South West Africa . After the end of the First World War and South West Africa's position under the mandate of the League of Nations , he returned to Germany. In 1921 he was appointed director of the Stollberg mining inspection . In 1929 he succeeded Albert Borchers, who had died in office, as a mining captain in Saxony and headed the Oberbergamt in Freiberg. He retired on July 1, 1940. Friedrich Wernicke was his successor .

He wrote two books about his experiences and impressions in South West Africa.
