Localization of Thuringia in Germany

The Sieglitzberg transmitter is a transmitter on the 733 meter high Sieglitzberg near Bad Lobenstein in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

On the Sieglitzberg, a listening station of the HA III of the MfS was built in the early 1960s under the code name Rennsteig . From here, among other things, directional radio links of the Deutsche Bundespost were intercepted in order to eavesdrop on the internal police radio in northeast Bavaria. After the political change , the old facilities on the Sieglitzberg were partly demolished. Amateurfunk Sieglitz eV uses some buildings and a concrete tower. Between 1992 and 1993, today's free-standing 90.6 m high reinforced concrete tower was built.

Lobenstein and the Saale Valley near the border with Bavaria are supplied from this location .
