The transmitter from the air

The Brotjacklriegel transmitter has been on the Brotjacklriegel since 1951 . It is a transmitter for radio that a little later for the distribution of TV used programs. A free-standing steel lattice tower 48 meters high was used for this until 1960. Between 1959 and 1960, today's 100 meter high reinforced concrete tower was built. Since October 2006 it has been carrying a 23 m high cylinder made of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP cylinder) in which the antennas for the DVB-T are present. There is an adapter piece of 2 meters between the concrete tower and the cylinder.

The transmitter has a very large range: from the Upper Palatinate Jura to the entire Bavarian Forest , the entire Danube Valley to Linz . The southernmost part of the transmission area is the northern dam of the Alps . There, the Brotjacklriegel transmitter is the main basic network transmitter in some areas, as locations much closer such as Wendelstein or Hochberg are shadowed by nearby mountain ranges. The station can also be received well in parts of the Czech Republic .

The Bavarian digital radio bouquet has been broadcast in DAB standard by Brotjacklriegel since September 12, 2001 , originally with an output of 1 kW. On November 10th, 2009 the transmission power was increased to 3 kW. A second DAB transmitter has been in operation since December 9, 2011, via which Bayerischer Rundfunk broadcasts its nationwide digital radio bouquet BR Bavaria with 4 kW transmission power on channel 11D. On July 1, 2016, a third DAB transmitter went into operation, which broadcasts the Germany-wide multiplex DR Germany with 4 kW transmission power on channel 5C .

All three bouquets of the public broadcaster are broadcast on digital aerial television . On October 11, 2011, VHF channel 7 was switched off. The programs “Das Erste”, “ARTE”, “Phoenix” and “One” have been broadcast on UHF channel 40 via DVB-T. Since March 13, 2019, the new DVB-T2 HD HEVC (H.265) standard has been broadcast.
