Localization of Bavaria in Germany

The transmitter Passau on the Kühberg in Passau is a transmission system of the Bavarian radio . It has existed since the early 1950s. Until 1978, this system also served as a medium wave transmitter and used a transmitter mast isolated from earth as a transmitting antenna.

Today this system is used to distribute radio programs via FM and DAB as well as television programs via DVB-T . A free-standing prefabricated concrete mast is used as the antenna support.

The transmitter system has also been used by some mobile network operators ( Vodafone , E-Plus and o2 Germany ) for the distribution of mobile communications ( GSM / UMTS ) and for the directional radio connection of various locations in and around Passau since the 1990s.

Since November 4, 2009, digital aerial television (DVB-T) has also been broadcast from here. This enables digital TV reception in the Passau area via an indoor antenna. On October 30, 2014, Bayerischer Rundfunk started broadcasting its nationwide digital radio bouquet BR Bavaria with 5 kW transmission power on channel 11D.
