Localization of Bavaria in Germany

On the 775 meter high summit of the Hochberg there is a transmission system for the Bavarian broadcasting company . This was planned as a filling transmitter around 1954 and finally built in 1960 to supply the nearby Alpine valleys and the eastern Chiemgau as well as the western Berchtesgadener Land. In good weather and over-range, the transmitter's signal can even reach the high altitude of the Bavarian Forest , and it can even be received regularly in the east of the state capital of Munich .

For several years now, the site has also served as a radio link and transmitter station for some mobile network operators . Radio amateurs from Traunstein operate an analog relay there on 439.125 MHz with a connection to the global EchoLink service.

A filler transmitter for DVB-T had been in operation since November 9, 2009 until it was switched off . At the same time as the switch to DVB-T, analog TV broadcasting from Rauschberg was discontinued. The station Hochberg is currently broadcasting in the DVB-T2 standard .
