The Rimberg transmitter is a Hessian broadcasting system for VHF , DVB-T , mobile radio and radio relay on the Rimberg in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district of Hesse .

The transmitter was built in 1966 and uses a 220-meter-high guyed steel truss mast with a square cross-section. Until the switch to DVB-T on May 29, 2006, analog television was broadcast on channels 25 ( ZDF , 250 kW), 39 ( HR , 332 kW) and 57 ( ARD , 400 kW).

On May 1 and 2, 2018, the more than 50-year-old GRP cylinder was replaced with a new one. The new tip contains the antennas for DVB-T2 .

Geographical location

The Rimberg transmitter is located on the Rimberg ( 591.8  m above sea  level ), a wooded mountain in the Knüll low mountain range between the towns of Alsfeld and Bad Hersfeld . It is located about 500 meters east, above the at the National Highway 5 standing motel locking house Rimberg (about  484  m ) in the northwest part of the elongated ridge.

The programs broadcast on the Rimberg station were partially changed in 2005 after several decades. First of all, the radio youth wave You FM was activated in April on the frequency 97.7 used by hr3 up to then. In the course of a larger, Hesse-wide frequency swap between Hessischer Rundfunk and Deutschlandradio, the Deutschlandfunk program has been broadcast on the 91.3 MHz frequency since June 2005. Previously, hr1 could be heard here.

In February 2013, the hr-info program was activated on the 95.0 MHz frequency previously used by hr2.

Today, hr1, hr2 and hr3 can only be heard in the coverage area of the Rimberg transmitter via neighboring transmitter locations (especially Hoher Meißner , Heidelstein and Sackpfeife ).

Digital radio (DAB)

DAB is broadcast in vertical polarization and in single-frequency mode with other transmitters. The activation of DAB channel 7B, the state-wide multiplex of the Hessischer Rundfunk and the nationwide multiplex on DAB channel 5C took place on August 1, 2012.
