The smallest district of Breitenbach am Herzberg in the eastern Hessian district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg is powerless .

Geographical location

Powerless lies in the southern part of the Knüllgebirge around 1.8 km northeast of the Rimberg summit . The small Ibra tributary Powerless Water flows through it . The country road  3294 ( Ibra –Machtlos – Breitenbach) runs through the village and is bridged about 800 m to the south-east in a forest area by the federal motorway 5 that runs there to Rimberg .

history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1372 with the place name Machtulffis , from 1585 the place was called Machtloss until the name changed to today's Machtlos .

The deserted areas of Barterode, Tongrube (then a mine) and Ziegelhütte were in the district .

Territorial reform

On August 1, 1972, the place in the district of Ziegenhain was incorporated into the municipality of Breitenbach am Herzberg as part of the regional reform in Hesse by state law.
