The transmission tower in 2009

The Gelbelsee transmitter is a broadcasting system of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation in the community of Denkendorf in the Eichstätt district in northern Upper Bavaria . It is close to the A 9 between Nuremberg and Munich within sight of the “Gelbelsee” rest area.

Transmission area

The central transmission area is the entire area of the Altmühltal Nature Park as well as the adjacent areas, e.g. B. the northern Hallertau or the western or southwestern Franconian Alb .

Recipients in the independent city of Ingolstadt and also in the neighboring districts of Eichstätt and Neuburg-Schrobenhausen can receive the programs in very good quality. Due to its exposed location, the transmitter can also be received in a wider area, e.g. B. in the district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate , in southern Central Franconia or as far as Amberg and Regensburg , the signals can reach. In good weather, reception is also possible in the Munich area and on the northern slopes of the Alps .

history

The transmitter was built in 1952 as a filling transmitter for the Altmühltal , and was later expanded. The current 112 meter high reinforced concrete tower dates from 1979.

A transmitter for digital radio in DAB standard was put into operation on January 1, 1994 with a transmission power of 1 kilowatt. The Bavarian digital radio bouquet is broadcast from here. On November 10, 2009 the transmission power was increased to 4 kW, now all muxes transmit with 10 kW.

In November 2008 the tower was supplemented with a DVB-T antenna.
