The Weimar (Ettersberg) transmitter is located on the Großer Ettersberg north of Weimar, near the former Buchenwald concentration camp . Next to the Weimar transmitter (south of the city), it is also located on a property owned by Deutsche Funkturm GmbH, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG .
This location is used today for the distribution of digital television ( DVB-T 2), analog radio ( UKW ), digital radio ( DAB ).
It also serves as an antenna location for mobile communications and for radio links.
history
The property including the broadcasting operation building ( A tower ) was originally developed as a district radio control center (BzRFuZ) Erfurt, as part of network level 1 of the party's radio link network ( SED ). The network worked in an open regime without the use of key technology and was bugged in the second half of the 1960s by the telecommunications intelligence service of the German armed forces in accordance with an agreement with the Federal Intelligence Service (BND). As a result, the use of the network was severely restricted. With the expansion of special network 1 , the directional radio network lost its importance for daily communication. Mainly it was prepared for the event of war. It was transferred to Deutsche Post free of charge on January 1, 1984 . According to an agreement between the DP and the NVA , a defined number of reserve channels for command posts were made available to the NVA for a fee until 1990. The location continued to be used for the transmission of newspaper print sets from the newspaper of the central organ of the New Germany party to the printing facilities in the Erfurt district. In the mid-1980s, FM and TV (filling stations) were added. As a result of the reunification , the radio links used up to that point were discontinued and the property was transferred to the Deutsche Bundespost .
