The Broitzem telecommunications tower is a radio tower and is located in the Broitzem district of the city of Braunschweig on the Steinberg. It is a transmitter of the Deutsche Telekom / Deutsche Funkturm . The type 2 telecommunications tower was built in 1971 and raised to its current height of 154.65 m around 1987 as part of the introduction of private radio. This makes it the second tallest building in the city after the chimney of the Mitte thermal power station . The operating floor is 78 m above the ground. The tower is used for radio relay purposes as well as for broadcasting radio and TV programs.
TV programs have also been transmitted in DVB-T2 since 2016.

Digital radio ( DAB / DAB + )
The nationwide multiplex has been broadcast on DAB channel 5C in vertical polarization and in single-frequency mode with other transmitters since April 13, 2012.
Digital television ( DVB-T2 )
The DVB-T2 control operation launched on March 29, 2017. The DVB-T2 broadcasts in HEVC place in simulcast (Single Frequency Network) with other sites. The public broadcasters can be received free of charge, the private broadcasters are largely encrypted and broadcast via the DVB-T2 platform freenet TV .
