The Braunschweig-Mitte combined heat and power plant is a combined heat and power plant operated by the Braunschweig municipal utility . Since 1924 there has been a coal-fired power plant at the site , which was last renovated in 1986. The 198 meter high chimney , built in 1983–84, is the tallest structure in Braunschweig . An electrical output of 78 megawatts is generated by means of combined heat and power , the thermal output is 330 megawatts. Up to 400 tons of coal can be burned daily, which is delivered via the Braunschweig harbor and the railway.
In 2011, a gas and steam turbine system with 77 MW electrical and 69 MW thermal output was put into operation. The steam turbine was supplied by Siemens .
The generator voltage is 10.5 kilovolts . The network is connected to the network of the distribution network operator Braunschweiger Netz GmbH via the Hasenwinkel and Nord cell substations on the 110 kV high voltage level. The Mitte power station produces around 35% of the city's electricity and 85% of the district heating needs .
The fireplace also carries transmission antennas for broadcasting television programs in DVB-T and DVB-T2 mode.
Digital television (DVB-T2)
The DVB-T2 control operation launched on March 29, 2017. The DVB-T2 broadcasts in HEVC place in simulcast (Single Frequency Network) with other sites. The public broadcasters can be received free of charge, the private broadcasters are largely encrypted and broadcast via the DVB-T2 platform freenet TV .
