The multithek was an HbbTV platform from Media Broadcast . It was broadcast via DVB-T and DVB-S (Astra 19.2 ° East). The distribution took place via DVB-T in the mixed private multiplexes of the respective DVB-T islands.
The multithek offered the user access to various media libraries and the offers of broadcasters . The content included, for example, the ARD media library and the ZDF media library as well as other television channels such as Bloomberg TV . In addition, the multithek offered easy access to news and information portals, shopping channels, the games center itsmy.TV and Kymba, a video-on-demand portal especially for children. In addition to conventional television control, the TV offer could also be controlled via a mobile web app via smartphone and tablet.
To receive HbbTV , access to the Internet and an HbbTV-capable device were required; otherwise the user only saw a test image.
At the German IPTV Award 2013 , multithek received the prize in the “Most Innovative Technology” category.
With the switch to the freenet TV platform (via DVB-T2 ) in the night of March 29, 2017, the multithek was integrated into freenet TV connect and was switched off via DVB-S, as the product name only refers to the terrestrial reception channel. The Multithek is still available for old devices.
