Frequencies and Programs

Analog FM radio

For the Hohe Wurzel the frequencies 100.6, 104.5 and 107.9 were planned for the coverage of Rheinhessen in the Geneva wave plan 1984 . The frequencies 100.6 and 104.5 have been moved to the Ober-Olm telecommunications tower , which is not ideal for Rheinhessen, but supplies the Rhine-Main area far better than the Hohe Wurzel. Background: The Hessischer Rundfunk had opposed the distribution of the Rhineland-Palatinate private Radio 4 from the Hohe Wurzel location, since private radio was not yet permitted in Hesse at that time (1986) and was given justice by the Wiesbaden Administrative Court. Frequency 107.9 was initially used for SWR4 Rhineland-Palatinate in the Mainz regional version, as no other frequencies were available for this. Only with the activation of numerous filling stations could the frequency be transferred to private radio.

In the case of directed radiation, the main radiation directions are given in degrees in the antenna diagram.

The four best-known radio programs of Hessischer Rundfunk that can be received in Hessen ( hr1 , hr2-kultur , hr3 and hr4 ), the private broadcaster Hit Radio FFH and the broadcaster Deutschlandfunk are broadcast for the Rhine-Main area by the broadcaster on the Großer Feldberg .

For the neighboring Rhineland-Palatinate, Südwestrundfunk offers the programs SWR1 Rhineland-Palatinate , SWR2 , SWR3 and SWR4 Rhineland-Palatinate (Kaiserslautern) via the Donnersberg station .

Digital television

DVB-T

On October 4, 2004 and finally on December 6, 2004, DVB-T was gradually started at the Hohe Wurzel location in single-frequency operation with other broadcasting locations . Until May 29, 2006, when the remaining areas of Hesse were converted to DVB-T, this single-frequency network was the first of its kind in Hesse. On March 29, 2017, DVB-T was switched off at this location in favor of the newer DVB-T2 HD standard .

DVB-T2 HD

On May 31, 2016, the broadcast of the high-resolution DVB-T2 HD began on the Hohe Wurzel. Since then, Das Erste, Pro Sieben, Sat 1, RTL, Vox and ZDF can be received in HD via antenna on channel 59 from the Hohe Wurzel. The transmitter systems on the Großer Feldberg and the Europaturm in Frankfurt am Main also broadcast the HD signal on channel 59. Regular operation of DVB-T2 started on March 29, 2017.
