The Fernmeldeturm Münster is in 1985/86 from contractors Oevermann erbauter telecommunications tower in reinforced concrete in Westphalian Münster . It is a replica of the Kiel telecommunications tower completed in 1975 . The tower has a total height of 229.5 meters. The operating room of the approximately 14,000 ton tower has a diameter of 40 meters and is 108 meters high.

use

The transmitter of the Deutsche Funkturm GmbH (DFMG) bears the internal name Münster 42 . On the tower there are, among other things, several VHF transmission systems, radio converters for BOS radio and base stations for mobile radio applications .

Since June 12, 2007, the Münster telecommunications tower has been broadcasting digital television in DVB-T standard, and since April 25, 2018 in DVB-T2 HD with the complementary private programming offered by Freenet TV . For this purpose, on April 27, 2007, a coupling for a new antenna construction was attached to the top of the tower by helicopter. With the new antenna, which was installed on May 15, 2007, the tower increased from its original height of 222.5 m to 229.5 m.

In addition, various radio links were maintained for telephony services, but these were increasingly being replaced by fiber optic connections . There are currently only three important radio links from Münster to Bielefeld , Schwerte and Haltern am See . The radio tower is also home to the automatically operating relay radio stations DBØHH and DBØOVM of the amateur radio association VFDB-Z14.

Frequencies and Programs

Digital television ( DVB-T / DVB-T2 )

In Münsterland , the conversion to the DVB-T2 standard with HEVC picture coding took place on April 25, 2018. Freenet TV's private programming is broadcast from the Münster telecommunications tower in single-frequency operation with Bielefeld (Hünenburg) and Osnabrück (Schinkelturm) . Optionally, additional programs included in the WDR offer and with Freenet TV connect as a link can be played via an Internet connection, if the receiving device supports HbbTV (from version 1.5) (WDR via IP: ARD-alpha HD , BR FS Süd HD , hr-fernsehen HD , rbb Berlin HD and SR Fernsehen HD ).
