history

The inventors of Radio Teddy are the former program director of the Saxon local broadcasting company SLP , Uwe Schneider , and Uly Köhler. Schneider was also one of the founding shareholders and still has a 5% stake in the station. Radio Teddy has been available around the clock since March 16, 2006. Before that, the program only ran from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and shared the FM frequency 106.8 MHz with the rock broadcaster Motor FM .

In the past, it was less the program than the question of its funding that was in the public interest. Although Radio Teddy is a commercial radio station that is financed by advertising, the public service broadcaster has been indirectly involved. A good quarter of the children's station belonged to Askania Radio (today: IR Holding), a wholly owned subsidiary of Odeon Film . This company, originally under public law, was acquired by Hubert Burda Media . Radio Teddy is now a purely private broadcaster. In the meantime, Radio Teddy is 90% majority owned by IR Holding GmbH, which also operates the BB Radio radio station. The other 10% are held by Uwe Schneider , one of the two founders of Radio Teddy, and Filmpark Babelsberg GmbH (5% each).

From December 1, 2010, the station changed its Berlin frequency. Since then it has been transmitting on 90.2 MHz. JazzRadio now broadcasts on the previous frequency of 106.8 MHz .

On January 1, 2013, broadcasting via ASTRA 12.148 GHz was discontinued.

On August 6, 2006, the music compilation Radio Teddy Hits Vol. 1 appeared for the first time and was continued in the following years; most recently in May 2017 with children's and chart hits from the Radio Teddy program.

On November 26, 2018, Radio Teddy took over the DAB + broadcasting slot formerly used by Kultradio in the regional multiplexes of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation and can be received here nationwide.

Surname

Radio Teddy initially referred to itself as “Germany's first children's and family radio”, but the non-commercial children's radio Radijojo was founded in Berlin in August 2003 .
