Six Saxon local radio broadcasters operate under the name Sachsen Funkpaket . It currently consists of the radio stations Radio Dresden , Radio Leipzig , Radio Leipzig 2 , Radio Chemnitz , Radio Lausitz , Radio Zwickau , Radio Erzgebirge and Radio Erzgebirge 2 . All broadcasters within the collective bargaining agreement advertise their programs with the claim “The best music!”. All programs are supervised by the Saxon State Authority for Private Broadcasting and New Media (SLM) and are produced by Broadcast Sachsen GmbH & Co. KG.

General information

The channels set up for the major cities and metropolitan areas of Saxony broadcast a full 24-hour program. The program is adapted to the listeners' wishes and needs as well as the results of market research. The main focus of all broadcasters is the adult contemporary music format, since the 25 to 49 year old listeners are of particular interest as a target group. Key points of the program are news always on the hour, headlines and short messages always on the half-hour, as well as local and regional reporting of the respective region. The broadcasters also organize promotions, events and entertainment as well as broadcasts for their listeners.

The cover program for the Saxon city broadcasters is put together in Dresden. The programs are only disconnected for the local news, always ten minutes before the hour or every half hour. In addition, each local broadcaster produces its own afternoon program on weekdays from 1:50 p.m. to 6:50 p.m.

history

The Saxony radio package was originally produced by Sächsische Lokalrundfunk Dienstleistungsprogramm GmbH & Co. Studiobetriebs KG (SLP), after which the media company Telefonbuchverlag Sachsen GmbH (MTS) became a major shareholder. The Sachsen radio package is now being produced by Broadcast Sachsen GmbH & Co. KG (BCS), which also operates Hitradio RTL .

In May 1993 the first four city radios started their 24-hour local radio program in Saxony. Radio Dresden, Radio Leipzig, Radio Chemnitz and Radio Lausitz were supplemented in December 1994 by Radio Zwickau and in October 2005 by Radio Erzgebirge. In the early years, all broadcasters each had their own management team.

In May 1996 the Saturday evening radio show Maxi-Mal went on air for the first time with the new presenter DJ Happy Vibes and the fictional character ABM-Kraft Horst. The show, which had already emerged from the previous format 5 for Saxony , became the most successful evening show on Saxon private radio.

In the following years Tino Utassy gradually became managing director of the local broadcasters. Under his leadership, Radio Chemnitz was launched in 1993 and Radio Zwickau in 1994. In 1998 he took over the management of Radio Leipzig and finally in 1999 the management of Radio Dresden and the network. Since 2002, when Tino Utassy took over the management of Radio Lausitz, the stations have now formed a permanent unit.

In the summer of 1999 the SLP lowered the proportion of words and increased the proportion of music. The music of the 1970s was removed from the program. In addition, the frequencies were included in the station names and a new logo was presented. In the fall of 1999, Friday night went on air for the first time. Until 2008, each local broadcaster broadcast its own program live from a discotheque in the region. From 2008 this broadcast was also centralized and broadcast equally for all stations of the main program. Lutz Escher has been the moderator since he helped develop and conceptualize the show and has moderated it on RAdio Chemnitz since it started broadcasting.

January 2000 the SLP went on air with a new morning show Falko und die Morgenmädels . The previous local morning shows were canceled. In 2002 Falko Maiwald handed over his morning girls and the morning show to his successor André Hardt. Since then, the show has been called André and the Morning Girls .

Since January 1, 2005, Sachsen Funkpaket has been produced by the newly founded Broadcast Sachsen GmbH & Co. KG, to which Hitradio RTL has belonged since then . In July 2007, the stations got their original names again. The frequency in the name was omitted with a view to the digital age.

On October 20, 2016, Maxi-Mal was surprisingly canceled. Declining audience ratings were officially cited as the reason for discontinuation, but this was clearly refuted by the MA 2017 / I media analysis.

Broadcast house

All programs have been produced since October 1998 in the Ammonhof near the World Trade Center in Dresden. Since the start of broadcasting, the Sachsen Funkpaket had its main broadcasting house in Mohorner Strasse, before the station moved directly to Dresden city center in October 1998. There are other local broadcasters in Leipzig, Chemnitz, Zwickau, Bautzen and Annaberg-Buchholz. Only the local news and the local afternoon programs are produced there.

In May 2005 the main broadcasting center in Dresden was extensively modernized. Four new broadcasting studios were created. Between 2008 and 2013 the studios in Leipzig, Chemnitz, Zwickau, Bautzen and Annaberg-Buchholz were also renewed.
