The Angelburg television tower ( radio transmission center Eschenburg 1 ) is a 171 m high telecommunications tower in the Scheldt Forest in Hesse . It is located about 1 km east of Hirzenhain train station (district of Eschenburg ) on the 609 m high Angelburg mountain and is one of the so-called basic network transmitters .
The type tower (FMT 3), which was put into operation in 1968, is the tallest television tower in Central Hesse and, until 2011, was also by far the tallest structure in the Lahn-Dill district . Since its completion at the turn of 2012/2013, the Hohenahr wind farm with its seven 198.5 m high wind turbines has been the new record holder. The station's employees reach the top via 678 steps or an elevator . The operating floor is located at a height of around 48 m, on the lowest and largest of a total of four platforms. The tower is not open to the public.
Twelve public television programs in the DVB-T digital standard and one FM radio program are broadcast here. In addition, the television tower is used by the mobile operators Telekom Deutschland and E-Plus as well as by civil protection and the police . The Deutsche Funkturm , a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom , is the owner of the tower; it is operated by T-Systems , also a subsidiary of Telekom.

Digital television (DVB-T)
The DVB-T broadcasts on the mast ran from 29 May 2006. He sent only the channel 32 in the single-frequency operation (Single Frequency Network) with other transmitter sites. The transmitter was switched off on April 24, 2018. A switch to DVB-T2 HD is not planned.

DVB-T reception from the Hessian Rhine-Main area is usually also possible. From there, the private broadcaster groups RTL and ProSiebenSat.1, as well as a mixed private multiplex, which also contains Tele 5 , are broadcast. A roof antenna aligned vertically at the Großer Feldberg im Taunus location is the best solution in this regard. Indoor or outdoor antenna reception may also be possible in favorable locations. When using roof antennas, it should be noted that both band III VHF (DAB +) and band IV / V UHF are broadcast. This means that either a combination antenna Band III VHF / Band IV / V UHF or two different antennas suitable for the respective areas can be mounted in vertical polarization on the antenna mast.
The transmitter also supplied parts of North Rhine-Westphalia (southeastern parts of the Siegen-Wittgenstein district) with DVB-T that could not be reached by the single-frequency network in South Westphalia. However, the responsible local time was not to be seen Siegen . This was due to the fact that the WDR only feeds the local Cologne time nationwide into ARD's own HYBNET and only makes the regionalized version available within NRW.
On October 7, 2010, the ZDFmobil Multiplex changed channels from channel 52 to channel 45.
