The Hohenahr wind farm is a wind farm in the municipality of Hohenahr in Hesse . It is located west of Altenberg in the district of Hohensolms and approx. 8 km north of the district town of Wetzlar . Its seven wind turbines , with a total height of 198.5 m, are the tallest structures both in the Lahn-Dill district and in the entire Hessian planning region of Central Hesse . Until 2011 this was the 171 m high Angelburg television tower near Hirzenhain , then four up to 190 m high wind farms in the wind farms near Breidenbach and in the Scheldt Forest .

technology

The Hohenahr wind farm consists of seven Nordex N117 / 2400 wind turbines . This type of turbine, which has only been in series production since July 2012, is specially designed for low-wind locations inland. This is particularly characterized by the large rotor diameter of 117 m with a moderate nominal power of 2.4 MW, which results in a particularly large rotor area per kW, and the hub height of 140 m. The machine houses of the plants are each located on a hybrid tower, which consists of precast concrete parts up to a height of 91 m and is then designed as a tubular steel tower for a further 46 m. The total nominal output of the wind farm is 16.8 MW. Electricity is fed in via the E.ON Netz AG substation in Asslar .

history

The planning of the wind farm by the Wiesbaden-based and internationally active project planning company ABO Wind began in April 2010. By March of the following year, among other things, expert reports on the local bird and bat fauna were drawn up and a landscape analysis was carried out. The population of the Hohenahr community was involved in the planning at an early stage through an information event in Hohensolms in May 2010. In June 2011, approval was granted by the Gießen Regional Council as part of a deviation procedure.

The location of the wind farm is located in the community forest of Hohenahr near the border to the neighboring community Asslar and the city forest of Wetzlar . Due to the location on communal land, the community not only receives trade taxes , but also lease income from the operation of the wind turbines. Even before construction actually started, ABO Wind sold the Hohenahr wind farm in March 2012 to the regional energy supplier Mainova from Frankfurt am Main, with the company retaining the technical management. A seventh of the shares is owned by Aufwind Energiegenossenschaft Lahn-Dill-Bergland Süd eG , in which the Hohenahr community has a stake, but which is primarily intended to enable citizens to participate in the form of a community wind farm .

In February 2012, the construction of the foundations for the almost 200 m high turbines from the Rostock manufacturer Nordex began . After completion of the towers, the rotors should be installed from August of that year. Commissioning was initially planned for autumn, but this was delayed by a few months for various reasons. The installation of the systems was accompanied by a high - consistently positive - public interest. In order to meet the needs of the population for information, guided tours to the construction sites and sightseeing flights with a helicopter were also offered.

On November 16, 2012, the first rotor star (of plant 1) was lifted and installed and the plant was then officially put into operation. Due to the limited space due to the forest location, which meant that a complete pre-assembly of the rotor star on the ground was not possible, most of the systems had to be completed by single blade assembly, i.e. H. the individual rotor blades were attached one after the other to the already assembled hub at a height of 140 m. This was first done on November 23, 2012 at Annex 6. By mid-January 2013, all seven wind turbines could be installed and put into operation after being connected to the power grid. In March 2013, minor routine reworking took place on the individual systems, which meant that they had to be switched off temporarily during the work.

The wind farm is part of a 2008 initiative by the Hohenahr municipality to reduce energy consumption by 20% by 2020, increase energy efficiency by 20% and generate 20% of energy consumption from renewable energies . The latter goal can already be considered overachieved by the construction of the wind park and a solar park at Erda . It is planned to expand the wind farm by five to six turbines on the Asslar side.
