The Altenberg ( 442.2 m above sea level. NHN the highest mountain in the municipality of Hohenahr in the Gladenbacher Bergland , 4.4 km south of the Hohensolms district and 1.4 km southwest of Königsberg , a district of Biebertal . The mountain was in the Middle Ages location of the castle Old Solms , from today only remnants of Wall- and grave sites are available.
) isObservation tower
Probably from the stones of the castle, Prince Ferdinand von Solms-Hohensolms-Lich , who had his seat in the nearby Hohensolms Castle in the 1830s, had the approx. 6 m high observation tower built around this time , which can still be climbed today. When the weather is right, it offers a distant view from the Wetterau in the south, over the Taunus in the southwest, the Westerwald in the west to the Scheldt Forest in the northwest. In the north and east, the Hohensolms Castle and the Dünsberg are only recognizable through aisles in the forest. The view is increasingly restricted by the growth of the surrounding trees and the construction of wind turbines west of the tower.
Traffic and walking
From the highest point of the L 3053 from Blasbach to Hohensolms west of the mountain, the summit can be reached on foot in 10 to 15 minutes.
