Johann (es) Lingelbach (baptized October 10, 1622 in Frankfurt am Main , † 1674 in Amsterdam ) was a German painter .

Life

When he was 15 years old, his father David Lingelbach went to Amsterdam with his family. Father David was a technician in an amusement park ("Den nieuwen en vermaeckelijcken dool-hof, staende op de Roose-Graght, by de derde brugh"), but his son dedicated himself to painting. He first learned in Holland, from 1642 in Paris and from 1644 in Rome. Around 1653 he returned to Amsterdam and married. From 1662 he lived in the Reestraat , a small street near the Prinsengracht , and became a good friend of the painter Jürgen Ovens .

He was known for his Italian-influenced painting. He painted some battles and many landscapes. He also painted for other painters such as Meindest Hobbema or Adriaen Hendriksz Verboom , in whose pictures he once depicted people. His pictures found their way to numerous galleries in Europe.

It is a composed view that combines various elements: pillars from the forum, the Capitol stairs and a view of the open landscape.)
