The Heidelstein from the southwest

The Heidelstein transmitter is located on the 926 m high Heidelstein in the Franconian part of the Rhön . It consists of a 218-meter-high guyed tubular steel mast built by Deutsche Telekom AG in 1969 , which carries antennas for directional radio and for broadcasting TV and VHF radio programs.

In favor of the switch to DVB-T , the analog channels were discontinued on May 29, 2006. On November 8, 2017, the company switched to DVB-T2.

All of the frequencies broadcast by the Heidelstein transmitter today were originally intended for other transmission systems in the Rhön. The "Bavarian" frequencies 101.9 MHz and 103.3 MHz should the BR - transmitter Kreuzberg are sent. The four Hessian frequencies were intended for a transmitter on the Wasserkuppe in the 1980s . However, the necessary transmission mast was not allowed to be erected there, so that a move to the Bavarian Heidelstein was necessary. All Heidelstein frequencies are still internationally coordinated for the original locations. The hr1 frequency 104.8 MHz did not start until January 1, 1996 from the Heidelstein location, previously it was occupied with the program of Hit Radio FFH from the station Hoherodskopf ( Vogelsberg ).
