history

The radio station founded by Anton Blessing in October 1985 went on air for the first time on February 3, 1986 under the name Radio Session 85 in the broadband cable network and was thus one of the first German private radio stations. On September 24, 1986 the program could be received terrestrially via VHF for the first time, initially only in the city of Kempten on the frequency 88.1 MHz. Anton Blessing was also the only private person in Germany who had a broadcast permit - all other stations were, for example, corporations such as a GmbH.

On October 1, 1987, the former competitors received Radio Allgäu (which had already emerged in Kempten in mid-1987 from the previously independent broadcasters RTA - Radio Tele Allgäu, RAA - Radio Allgäu Aktuell and Radio K) , Neue Welle Grünten and Radio Föhn , as well Radio Session also got the license from the Bavarian State Center for New Media (BLM) to broadcast in the Oberallgäu district . In addition to the competitors, Radio Session also went on air with its own broadcast studio in Sonthofen (time divided on the same VHF frequency). After a further decision by the Bavarian state headquarters, the program providers of Radio Allgäu and Radio Session were ordered back to Kempten in May 1988 and from then on broadcast their programs for the Upper Allgäu from Kempten stations .

In 1991 Radio Allgäu withdrew. The BLM granted radio session provider Anton Blessing sole broadcasting rights for a full 24-hour program. Since then, the radio station has been broadcasting under the name Radio Session Allgäu and in 1992 took over the broadcasting time of Radio Holiday , formerly Neue Welle Grünten in Sonthofen.

In the following years, the program for Radio Welle Bodensee was also delivered from Lindau. Today Radio Session Allgäu is hardly called that anymore, but almost exclusively as RSA radio .

In 2008 the founder, managing director and to date sole owner Anton Blessing sold 74.9 percent of the shares in RSA Radio, RSA2 and Radio Galaxy Kempten to Allgäuer Zeitungsverlag and Sankt Ulrich Verlag . The managing directors were Markus Niessner, Christian Berthold and Johann Buchart.

In the course of this sale, RSA was merged with the local radio station Radio Ostallgäu from Kaufbeuren . Radio Ostallgäu broadcast for one year under the name RSA / Radio Ostallgäu, and since mid-2009 the program has been taken over from Kempten.

In autumn 2012 the station was uniformly renamed “Das neue RSA Radio”. Since the beginning of 2019 the station appears again under the name "RSA Radio".
