Regional Association

Landscape association is a form of a municipal association in the states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony .

The part of the name landscape does not refer to the current meaning of the term in the sense of a natural or geographical area (see landscape ); Rather, it establishes a connection to the earlier estates , the entirety of which within a rulership area was also referred to as landscape (see landscape (estates) ).

Today's landscape associations have partly emerged from the old estates, sometimes through several intermediate stages. Other historical landscapes, like in Lower Saxony, participated in their establishment and are working with them. In all cases, however, the districts, cities and municipalities are the decisive association members.
