Erich Kittel

Hermann Karl Erich Kittel (born December 30, 1902 in Budweis ; † August 19, 1974 in Detmold ) was a German archivist and director of the Detmold State Archive.

After completing his doctorate at the Humboldt University in Berlin, Erich Kittel was State Archives Councilor at the Prussian Secret State Archives in Berlin-Dahlem from 1931 . From 1939 to 1945 he served as a reserve officer in Poland, France and Russia. After a short stop at the Osnabrück State Archives , he took over the management of the Lippisches Landesarchiv, which later became the Detmold State Archives , in 1946 , which he ran until he retired.

In addition, from 1946 to 1950 he was head of the Lippische Landesbibliothek , member of the historical commission for Westphalia (board 1970–1974) and from 1949 to 1969 chairman of the natural science and historical association for the state of Lippe . In 1968 he was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany.
