Alexander von Süsskind-Schwendi

Alexander Otto Rudolf Freiherr von Süßkind-Schwendi (born September 24, 1903 in Berlin ; † June 29, 1973 in Munich ) was a German ministerial official.

Life

origin

Alexander comes from the Württemberg noble family of Barons von Süsskind . He was the son of the Prussian general of the infantry Richard von Süßkind-Schwendi (1854-1946) and his wife Ilse, née von Winterfeld (* 1876).

Career

In 1922, during his studies, Süßkind became a member of the Derendingia fraternity in Tübingen . From 1934 to 1944 he worked in the Reich Ministry of Economics . In the last two years of the Second World War he did his military service and was taken prisoner of war . In 1948/49 he was the head of the liaison office of the Ministries of Commerce in the countries of the French zone for the Administration of the Economy of the United Economic Area. After the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany, he was head of Section II 2 (Methods of European Cooperation and Marshall Aid) in the Federal Ministry for Affairs of the Marshall Plan from 1950 to 1951 . From 1951 to 1956 he was Deputy Head of the Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany at the Organization for European Economic Cooperation (OEEC) in Paris. In 1957 he returned to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation . From 1957 to 1959 he was in charge of department II (European economic cooperation) and III (administration of the ERP special assets). From 1959 he was head of department II (federal and ERP assets) with the rank of ministerial director. In 1968 he retired and received the Great Cross of Merit with Star of the Federal Republic of Germany.

family

Susskind married Countess Elisabeth Hagen (1909–1946) on October 1, 1936 in Niedergebra . After her death, he married Countess Antonia Droste zu Vischering (* 1916) in Bad Godesberg on May 5, 1951 . The sons Johann Gottlieb (* 1939) and Eberhard (* 1941) emerged from the first marriage.
