history

Harzberg was first mentioned in a document in 1453. That year, nobleman Bernhard zur Lippe carried out a border inspection together with Count Moritz von Pyrmont . In the traditional protocol of this action, Harzberg is referred to as Hartkeberg . The population of the place has hardly changed over the centuries. The reason is the exclusively agricultural structure of Harzberg, which did not allow population growth.

In 1912 the community got a school building that was largely privately financed. At that time there were two school classes of 12 to 15 children each, who were separated according to their denomination. In 1932 the separation was lifted to save a teacher's salary. From 1946 the school children from Harzberg attended the Lügder school, and the Harzberg school was closed. Today services of the Protestant or Catholic Church are occasionally held here. In 1952 the farmer Steinmeier donated a private piece of land for the construction of a community cemetery, which is maintained by the local community.

Until 1969 Harzberg belonged as an independent municipality to the Lügde district , an exclave of the Höxter district at that time . The office was divided into the two communities Harzberg and Lügde, of which the latter had city rights and was also the administrative seat. As part of the municipal reform , Harzberg was incorporated on January 1, 1970.
