history
Origin of the settlement
Elbrinxen is one of the Saxon -hausen-places that were founded in the 8th century. The place name consists of a qualifier and the base word. The defining word is the personal name Elmar, Helmar or Elmering. It precedes the basic word -hausen. Helmeringhausen (13th century) or Elmeringhusen (1361) was in the immediate vicinity of today's Evangelical Reformed Church , the west tower of which dates from the 12th century. The evidence of the history of the settlement results from archaeological finds and excavations.
middle Ages
The ministerial family von (H) Elmerinchusen (1232) named themselves after their place of origin "Helmerinchusen". During the late Middle Ages the family of those "von Elmeringhusen" died out. They had already orientated themselves towards Paderborn, where there was seat and voice in the cathedral chapter In the Soest feud on July 25, 1447, Elmerinchusen was destroyed by Bohemian troops on their way from Falkenhagen to Schieder and then fell desolate.
Modern times
Reconstruction began in 1515 under the old ON Elmerinckhusen. The current spelling did not develop until the 17th century. The agricultural parish has developed into the largest village in the south-east of Lippe since it was re-established. Various trades and smaller service facilities complemented the offer.
20th and 21st centuries
After the First World War, various companies settled down and created numerous jobs. Little of them remains today. Like other places in the city of Lügde, Elbrinxen is continuously losing inhabitants. The parish has been without a pastor since December 2011, for the first time since 1515! Except for a bakery and a hotel with an attached restaurant, utilities are no longer available. In 2012 the primary school was closed.
The previously independent municipality was incorporated into the municipal reform on January 1, 1970.
In 1983 Elbrinxen was the first district winner in the competition Our village should be more beautiful and received the gold medal. In later years Elbrinxen also won several gold and silver medals in this competition. In 2008 Elbrinxen Golddorf won the district competition Our village has a future and in 2009 there was a bronze medal in the state competition.
In 2018 Elbrinxen, like other villages, took part in the Smart Country Side project. The Lippe district worked together with the Fraunhofer Institute to improve village structures with the help of digital possibilities. The result was a website on which the village could introduce itself but also share information with each other. Some content was also forwarded to a special village app called "Dorffunk". The website and the app were activated in summer 2019.
In 2019, the Lügde abuse case became public, in which there should have been over 1000 cases of sexual abuse of at least 31 children on a campsite in Elbrinxen within around 10 years . The case hit the headlines nationwide for weeks.
Attractions
- Wittekind linden tree
The Wittekind lime tree next to the Romanesque church is possibly the oldest still growing summer lime tree in Germany. Botanists estimate their age at 800–900 years. With a chest circumference of 11.30 meters, a height of 29 meters and a 25-meter spanning crown, the linden is one of the largest trees in Lippe. In the village there is also a stork station of the association for the protection of the white stork Elbrinxen e. V. and a bird nature trail.
- Elbrinx market barn
The Elbrinxer Marktscheune opened its doors in 2003. The former farm was converted into a small theater with approx. 170 seats. Since then, artists from all over Germany and the local associations (e.g. the Elbrinxer Dorfbühne) have performed in the half-timbered building. The highlight on New Year's Eve is the performance of the cult dinner for One .
Infrastructure
In Elbrinxen there is an Evangelical Reformed Church (see Evangelical Church Elbrinxen ) with a parish hall, an outdoor swimming pool, a hotel, a campsite, shops for groceries and several businesses.
