history

Mossenberg was called tom Ossenberg around 1488 , at that time 117 people lived there in 17 colonies . In a document from 1361 Wöhren is referred to as von Worde , which means enclosed land . The Wöhrener chapel was first mentioned in a document in 1600. The bell there dates from 1680 and its sound can still be heard over the two villages today; however, the tower clock was not installed until 1932.

Mossenberg is also known as the Lippisches Schilda , because there are many stories and anecdotes about this place. Once the Mossenbergers are said to have rolled the Wöhren church tower on peas into their village. These and other stories have even been published in the area's school reading books.

On January 1, 1970, Mossenberg-Wöhren was incorporated into the city of Blomberg.
