Hengsen is located in the south of the municipality of Holzwickede. In the south, the district borders in parts on the Ruhr .
Neighboring communities
In 1967, Hengsen bordered in a clockwise direction in the northwest with the city of Dortmund and the communities Holzwickede , Opherdicke and Altendorf (all in the Unna district ) as well as Hennen , Ergste , Geisecke and Lichtendorf (all in the Iserlohn district at that time ).
history
When the offices were set up in the Prussian province of Westphalia, the municipality of Hengsen belonged to the Aplerbeck office in the Dortmund district . On April 1, 1887, she moved to the newly formed district of Hörde . When this was dissolved on August 1, 1929, Hengsen came to the district of Hamm . This was renamed the Unna district in October 1930 . On January 1, 1968, Hengsen and Opherdicke were incorporated into Holzwickede.
From 1961 to 1992 internationally acclaimed grass track races were held on the “ Ruhr Valley Railway ”. The elevated spectator stands of the railway are still visible today as a mound around the oval on the site of the training area facing Schwerter Straße.

The state road L 673 connects Hengsen in the southwest with Geisecke , Schwerte , Westhofen and Garenfeld and in the east with Altendorf , Dellwig , Langschede , Fröndenberg / Ruhr and Wickede (Ruhr) . The state road L 677 leads north to Holzwickede and Dortmund Airport . In the south it connects Hengsen with Geisecke and Rheinen . The Hengseners drive on the L 678 to Opherdicke , Unna , Königsborn and Kamen .
