history

Archaeological excavations in the planned industrial area in 2016 revealed traces of an Iron Age settlement (approx. 8th – 1st century BC) which was unusual in its details. Pits, earth ovens and post houses were discovered, as well as a floor plan made up of 18 massive posts that was previously unique in this region, probably a storage building.

When the offices were set up in the Prussian province of Westphalia, the municipality of Wandhofen belonged to the Westhofen office in the Dortmund district . On April 1, 1887, she moved to the newly formed district of Hörde . When this was dissolved on August 1, 1929, Wandhofen came to the Iserlohn district . On the occasion of the municipal and district reform in North Rhine-Westphalia , Wandhofen was incorporated into the town of Schwerte on January 1, 1975.

In 1987, Wandhofen had a total of 1876 inhabitants.

traffic

The state road L 673 connects Wandhofen in the southwest with Westhofen and Garenfeld and in the east with Schwerte, Geisecke , Dellwig , Langschede , Fröndenberg / Ruhr and Wickede (Ruhr) . The Wandhofen stop was on the Dortmund – Iserlohn railway line . The trains now pass through Wandhofen without stopping.
