The Dortmund-Hörde Station is a passenger station in Dortmund district Hörde .

It belongs to the inventory of the Deutsche Bahn AG and was built on the Dortmund-Soester Railway . The station played an important role as a freight station, especially for mines and smelters. The old station building was largely destroyed in the Second World War and replaced by a functional building in 1955. Freight traffic has only used the routes as a through connection since 2002, but several times a day. The station is crossed by the Hörder Bridge , which serves as a pedestrian bridge .

General

The station's two island platforms were roofed over and accessed through a pedestrian tunnel. Tracks 1 and 2 are on the route to Unna and Soest, tracks 3 and 4 on the route to Schwerte and Iserlohn. Due to the low platform height, there was a large difference in height between the platform edge and the train when boarding and disembarking the trains until the renovation in 2009.

history

The station went into operation on July 9, 1855 with the Dortmund - Soest line. In 1912 the rail connection in the direction of Schwerte followed . The first station building from the opening year was 65 percent destroyed in the Second World War and the remains were removed by 1955. In 1956 a new building went into operation alongside the tracks. The building stood out due to its cantilevered and glazed upper floor, which rested on six narrow columns in the front area. The station bookshop , which later served as a sales pavilion, was presented to the building . In 2000 a private person bought the building. The old train station from the 1950s was entered as an architectural monument in the monuments list of the city of Dortmund . However, this did not prevent the demolition of the old station building and the construction of a significantly different building, including the complete overbuilding of the entire station forecourt.

A modernization of the station was planned for years, the preparation of the conversion was extremely lengthy. The project was briefly stimulated when, in 2006, an architectural office presented spectacular plans for a renovation. However, this proposal failed due to several factors. The creation of the Phoenix Lake near the train station was hoped to generate new impulses for renovation, as the train station would then become more important to Deutsche Bahn due to the increased number of tourists and passengers.

On December 14th, 2009 the groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation of the Hörder train station took place. According to this plan, the work should then continue until summer or autumn 2011. The measures included raising the platforms to a height of 76 cm, building three elevators, setting up a passenger information system for passengers with reduced mobility and renovating the access tunnels. The old station building was to be demolished and a new two-story building with a row of shops and a grocery store including a parking deck should be built in its place by an investor. On March 29, 2011, the demolition of the now neglected functional building from the 1950s began.

The extensive construction work was tedious. The tunnel was temporarily closed, access to platforms 3 and 4 was via a temporary staircase to the pedestrian bridge. A provisional platform was built on the otherwise platform-free track 5, which could not be reached from the bridge, but only via Schildstrasse and another stairway access; it was dismantled again after the construction work was completed. The actual station building with its numerous commercial uses has been completed. The first two elevators to the tracks were delivered late, the third was only ready for operation at the end of 2013.

The Deutsche Bahn trains in the direction of Dortmund Hauptbahnhof are used less by many residents due to the direct competition with the Stadtbahn, although the journey time is shorter. This is due, among other things, to the better accessibility of the city center at the Kampstrasse stop .
